Sao Tome, Sao Tome and Principe, 18 May – The government of East Timor is available to help Sao Tome and Principe in the process to explore oil via international cooperation, the Timorese secretary of state for Natural Resources, Alfredo Pires, said Monday in Sao Tome.
Pires made the statement at the end of a talk in the capital of Sao Tome and Principe about his own country’s experience of the oil industry with a view to supporting oil exploration on the Sao Tome and Principe archipelago.
He stated his interest in setting up a “memorandum of friendship,” between the two countries for the oil sector, and noted that, “we can establish a partnership to exchange knowledge and experience via training internships.”
As well as training oil sector staff, Pires said that East Timor may provide technical advice, amongst other possibilities for oil sector cooperation with Sao Tome and Principe.
As well as several working meetings with the Sao Tome minister for Natural Resources, Carlos Vila Nova, the Timorese minister, who has been in Sao Tome for four days, also met with officials from the Sao Tome and Principe National Oil agency as well as from the Joint Exploration Authority with Nigeria.
As well as the joint area with Nigeria that is the basis of a political exploration treaty, Sao Tome and Principe also has an exclusive marine area that has yet to be explored. (macauhub)
